Winter hiking tour to Debela Peč in Julian Alps

In winter, in addition to skiing, sledging and skating, there are many opportunities for outdoor experiences. A beautiful sunny day lured us on a winter tour of the Julian Alps. This time we went to the easternmost 2,000-meter peak in the Julian Alps. The tour goal is to reach the top of Debela Peč mountain.

The Debela Peč is a 2014 m high peak that stretches to the far east of the Julian Alps. It is considered one of the most easily accessible 2,000 peaks in winter. From the top, you can admire beautiful views of the nearby peaks. From the edge of the Debela Peča cliff, a breathtaking view of the Krma glacial valley opens up.

Slow-growing spruces of the Pokljuka forests have such resonant wood that they make the best violins from it.

We started a winter hiking tour from Medvedova Konta in the Pokljuka forests at 1410 m (Coordinates: 46.3748 ° N 13.9409 ° E). After a moderately wide cart track, the path led us through the vast forest of Pokljuka. We soon arrived in the grazing area of the Lipanca mountain. Along the way, we admired the mighty spruces rising high into the sky.

About Pokljuka

The high karst plateau of Pokljuka is the largest densely forested area in the Triglav National Park. Pokljuka is covered mainly by spruce forests. The forest grows between 1,000 and 1,500 meters above sea level. Altitude, fresh, clean air and energy points. All this together has a beneficial effect on our health and well-being.

From the forests of Pokljuka, we slowly climbed to the Bled hut on the Lipanca mountain (1630 m). We took a short break and refreshed ourselves for the further ascent to the top of Debela peč. We continued our way along steep snowy slopes. The path begins to climb steeply along less and less overgrown slopes. After a good half-hour of the walk, we arrived on an open ridge. Our goal was already visible in the east.

When we arrived at the top, we had a beautiful view of the Karavanke peaks from the north. The Kamnik-Savinja Alps in the west. From the top of Debela peč, there is one of the most beautiful views of Triglav (2864 m). We also have a beautiful view of Rjavina (2532 m) Mala Rjavina (2530 m), Luknja Peč (2249 m), Veliki Pršivec (2056 m), Kanjevec (2569 m), Mišeljski konec (2450 m), Tosc (2273 m).
